Rod Tucker

Rod graduated with a degree in pharmacy and a PhD in analytical chemistry from Bradford University in 1992. He is a pharmacist with over 30 years’ experience in different areas of pharmacy practice ranging from general practice to community pharmacy. In 2000, he joined HMP service and developed an interest in dermatology where he established clinics for patients with both acute and chronic skin problems and in 2003 was winner of the primary care Pharmaceutical Care Awards for his dermatology clinics. He has trained as an independent pharmacist prescriber and in 2005 worked for an intermediate care dermatology in East Yorkshire, seeing and treating patients referred from GPs. In 2010 Rod was a member of the development group for the NICE psoriasis guidelines published in 2012.

Between 2010 and 2018 Rod was a visiting researcher with Robert Gordon University where his work has focused on the role of pharmacists in supporting patients with skin problems. He has published over 20 peer-reviewed papers on his work and also produces educational articles on dermatology for pharmacists.

Rod has been a visiting specialist guest lecturer at the university of Bradford for the last 6 years where he has developed the undergraduate dermatology modules for both Pharmacy and Clinical Sciences. Since 2013, Rod has been a member of the editorial board for the journal Dermatology Nursing where, writes both clinical reviews and a regular “Ask the pharmacist” column, in response to questions sent in by readers of the journal. Rod has developed the content for a dermatology educational website for primary care health professionals and continues to write educational articles
